1. You don't. There was a demo at some point, that allowed you to play 1v1 online on 1 map, and it had like 3 short missions that didn't appear in the main game, but you may have to search a bit to find it. As far as the full game, it's not free. If you find it free, it's illegal. Look for the Starcraft Battle Chest in the ads. It'll be like $9.99 on sale, and it includes Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, and the strategy guides for both. You can also pick up the same deal for Diablo 2. That also includes Diablo 1. The packs are like $19.99 regular price. Support the developers! Don't pirate.

Like the first poster said, most of the free downloads are for demo versions. but trust me, full versions isn't hard to get like bit torrent or some other site which u can search out in google. i am not sure whither demos can play online yet, since it can connect to some point but lacks something...
