Do people have to play Starcraft Brood War online multiplayer with the latest version of the game?

like i have version 1.05, but my game cant connect to the fastest server on battle.net

1. You cannot connect to Battle.net without first obtaining the latest patch. Do you wish, for some reason, to stick with 1.05? I believe you can play the other types of multiplayer without patching, but Battle.net checks whether or not you have the latest version before allowing you to connect.
