starcraft 2? (protoss)?

just bought the game but theres some things i dont understand. What is shielding? and what is the blue bar that units have for?

1. Each race has their own little nuances. One of these is how they regain strength out of combat. The Zerg will regain health over time, the Terran can repair mechanical units, and the Protoss have shields. The way shields work is like a second health bar. When a Protoss unit gets attacked, their shield takes the damage until it's depleted, then they start taking damage to their health. Over time, the shield recharges by itself. So if your shields come down to 2, but you kill the enemy, eventually all of your shielding will recharge and that unit will be brand new again. If they burn down the shield, though, and your unit takes HP damage, the shield will recharge, but the health will remain the same. As a side note, the Protoss Immortal unit has a passive ability called Hardened Shields, which means as long as their shields are up, all incoming damage is reduced to 10, which makes Immortals great against heavier units.
