Starcraft Protoss tips?

I've been playing starcraft with some people in my dorm and find myself constantly losing to this one @-hole Terran player (my roommate) who always builds up a bunch of wraiths. His whole strategy involves making obscene amounts of missile turrets, wraiths and nukes; he has virtually nothing else. Should I just make a whole crap-load of dragoons and pair-'em up with a bunch of observers, or should I pair carriers up with observers and maybe an arbiter? (A couple carriers can take out the turrets if they're far enough away; it just takes a little bit, but he always shafts me with the wraiths before I can get too far). Last game I almost took him out really early (he builds virtually no marines), but his @#^@ base took off before I could finish him, and I hadn't built up enough dragoons to take 'em down.

  1. Remember to use Corsairs? They can easily take down a fleet of Wraiths, and they have Disruption Web, one of the best abilities in the game if you ask me. Also, rushing him works well. Just harass his base very early with zealots while you build your base/forces up. Micro a bunch of zealots around his base, and remember to harass his scvs. Killing your opponent's economy is the way to win. Every pro SC player always sends one worker to the enemy base the second the game starts, it's a good strategy. Just harass with it while you build your base. Massing goons isn't a terrible strategy against a base mainly guarded by missle turrets either.
  2. If it's a matter of rushing the proper units to counter his wraith role, I'd just switch to zerg and pump out a buncha hydras and upgrade overlords to long-distance sight. (Seeing as both are starter units, you should be able to outnumber and outperform easily.) As far as side-stepping the nukes, you'll just have to move them around enough to see where he's striking. Don't let him get to that point. If you're staying protoss, just keep in mind that wraiths aren't great when it's air-to-ground. So when attacking them, stay out of the air (or far enough away from them). Observers aren't a bad idea. It depends on how fast you personally can pump them out. The key to StarCraft is more speed than strategy, so as long as you know what type of defense/offense you're going for, it's just a matter of memorizing hot-keys and making it happen fast enough. If he gets to the point of having upgraded wraiths and nukes stealthed and at your doorstep, you probably took too long to get your units out there. And with StarCraft, 80% of the time, the best defense is a good and quick offense.
  3. Ok, you're a protoss player, against a Terran player, and he has a lot of defense. Playing as protoss means that rushing isn't your specialty; protoss was meant to be a late game race. Since most protoss units are very expensive, take your time. Build up your defense against that first marine rush. Build a few photon cannons, guard your base well. Wraiths... they're very good at stealth, but take that away, an you got a flying piece of soon-to-be scrap metal. The missile turret's weakness is land attacks; take them out with a couple of dark Templars . Carriers are OK; just make sure that they don't get ambushed. As another person in the world with a Terran rival, I feel glad to have helped. P.S. Stay away from science vessels; they 1-hit-KO your shields.
