I can't remember this game I played on my old computer...?

I want to play this game I played a few years ago and can't remember what the name of it was to download it. It came with my computer and I can't remember if it was a 98 or XP. In the game you were on an alien planet (maybe Mars?) and you were a miner in a ship. You had to go out and collect minerals or crystals so that you could return to your base where you could use them to upgrade your ship. While you were out collecting your resources there were these alien bug like things that you would encounter and have to fight off. I remember that that it was a shareware game cause I played the first level over and over.I know it's not Starcraft cause I've been doing a few searches and that came up. I can't find it. Also it had this fog of war thing where you had to actually explore the area before it showed up on the little map down in one corner..Oh, and I remember in the starting dialog where it gave some of the storyline that the other miners had gone missing. Don't know if that will help any. I hope someone will know what I'm talking about. if you mean Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, then no. It wasn't a civilization game.
