what keys do you need to get a downloaded version of starcraft to be playable online??

I downloaded starcraft and got a CD key already to have it be playable but what patch or other keys would i need to have it work for online play? (battle.net) thanks for the help :D :D =]

1. Well, if you're using XP, there are severe latency issues with the original starcraft, which prevents most users from being able to play it on battlenet. It's due to the fact that Blizzard was shortsighted in concerns with potential changes in technology, which hasn't been an issue with their later releases. So even if you have the key and patch and all that jazz, it still probably won't work right for you. My advice is to wait for Starcraft 2 to come out, if you want to get your online game on.
2. Downloaded = pirate copy, right? Why not scrounge up a few bucks, and pay for it? Given how old Starcraft is, you should be able to buy it for less than $10. That way, you get a legit CD key (and don't risk having someone else lose access to battle.net 'cuz you have their key), and then you can fully patch your legitimate copy so that it is as up to date as possible.
